About
Gidan Makama is one of Kano's important historic buildings. The traditional compound is associated with the Makama title and reflects the architecture and social organisation of historic Kano.
History
The building is traditionally dated to the period of Muhammad Rumfa, who later became Emir of Kano in the 15th century. It subsequently served generations of traditional office holders.
Today, its museum function allows visitors to explore objects, stories and cultural traditions associated with Kano and northern Nigeria.
