About
Freedom Park occupies the former site of Her Majesty's Broad Street Prison, one of the historic colonial-era prisons in Lagos.
Today, the site has been transformed into a public arts and cultural space where history, performance, music, theatre and contemporary creativity meet.
History & Cultural Significance
The transformation of the prison into Freedom Park represents a significant reinterpretation of Lagos's colonial history.
Rather than preserving the site simply as a monument to the past, the park gives it a new life as a place for cultural expression.
